Clarify the required function
An isolating function, load switching and automatic fault protection are different duties. A switch disconnector can combine switching and isolation, but it should not be treated as a circuit breaker unless the specified product actually incorporates the required protection. Start an enquiry with the function shown in the project drawing.
Check the load and pole arrangement
Specify current at the operating voltage, AC or DC use, switching duty and number of poles. A motor load can place different demands on the switch from a resistive load. Confirm neutral requirements with the design rather than assuming every four-pole device is configured identically.
Account for the operating mechanism
A complete assembly may require a handle, shaft, door coupling, terminal covers and auxiliary contacts. State the mounting location, enclosure depth and door arrangement. The switch reference alone may not include everything visible in a manufacturer illustration.
Replacement and retrofit enquiries
Provide photographs and dimensions of the existing equipment, plus all available part numbers. Check available mounting space and cable termination arrangements. Treat a different brand or frame as a retrofit proposal that needs technical review rather than a direct replacement by current rating.
Ordering checklist
Send switch reference, required accessories, quantity, electrical duty, mounting information and destination. Ask for a line-by-line quotation so bare switches and complete operating assemblies can be compared fairly.
